It is not redevelopment, it is new development on an open meadow if it was supportive of the city's economic development mission, it would be built on Bandera Road in any of a number of empty commercial properties, one of which being Fiesta Auto Center. In actuality, it will serve as a detriment to economic development as it will cause severe traffic problems it will destroy the quality of life for the citizens, particularly in the for neighborhoods in close proximity, as it will bring in persons of questionable character destined to end up in one of the detention cells the site is located in the Huebner Road corridor not Bandera Road and it will only have a sales tax impact if persons go to buy a hamburger and a Coke before heading out of town. The company set to build the facility claims it is supportive of Leon Valley's stated Economic Development Mission “to facilitate economic development…provide a better quality of life for the citizens of Leon Valley as well as focusing on redevelopment…revitalize the Bandera Road corridor, and increase sales tax revenues.”
